Mail Ballot Election

For the 2020 election, the Gallatin County Commission chose to hold a mail ballot election. Here is what this means:

  • Every active, registered voter in Gallatin County will be sent a ballot in the mail. Ballots will be mailed on October 9, 2020. In order for your ballot to be counted, the county must receive it by 8:00 pm on Election Day, November 3. When you receive your ballot, you have several options for returning it on time:
    • By mail – no postage is required as it is pre-paid
      • Put it in the mail as soon as possible but we recommend no later than October 24, 2020
    • In-person at the Gallatin County Election Department during business hours through 8:00 pm on November 3, 2020.
    • At drop-off locations across Gallatin County (see below) between October 9 and November 3, 2020
    • After returning your ballot, check here to confirm if it has been received.
    • If you do not receive a ballot in the mail by October 15, you may need to update your registration. We recommend you either contact the county or call/text the Montana Democrats Voter Assistance Hotline at (406) 272-4056 or 844-406-VOTE.
  • If you prefer, you can request a ballot and vote in-person at the Gallatin County Election Department starting on October 2, or one of the satellite election offices throughout the county when open (see below).
